Synthetic Turf for Events

Have you been thinking about using artificial turf for your event? You’re not alone. Event turf has been growing in popularity for personal events, corporate events, and general commercial use steadily over recent years. Consumers are becoming more aware of the wide variety of options, and this makes it easier to utilize the product in many scenarios.

Set the Perfect Scene

Event planners put in uncountable hours to ensure their event goes off without a hitch. Planning months or even years in advance presents some challenges. Arguably one of the most difficult to plan around, would be environmental. Wedding venues are turning to synthetic turf to ensure no matter the weather conditions leading up to the day, they can promise their couples a perfectly manicured lawn as a backdrop to the wedding. Event rental companies are also more inclined to work with these venues as their rentals are returned clean and in much better condition than if it were a rainy day and furniture was left in the mud.

Portable Green Space

Synthetic turf is also a great option for scenarios where the turf may need to be moved after some time, or events that move around the country. The turf is a great, lightweight option to provide green floor space in an instant. Just roll it out and watch the green space grow! We find consumers love this option for trade shows and large outdoor conferences as the synthetic turf is ADA compliant (wheelchairs can roll) and it is easy to clean and maintain with high traffic areas.

Sponsorship Opportunities

With the custom logo and waterjet abilities of our manufacturing plant, the possibilities are truly endless of what we can provide for corporate events. We often have large media events ‘sell’ the advertising space in the synthetic turf for companies to insert their logo right into the turf. These are some of the recent logos we have provided.

athletic synthetic turf

Artificial turf for personal events such as weddings, photo booths, and reunions is becoming a top choice to achieve the lush backyard lawn appearance many strive towards. The turf makes it feel much more inviting and luxurious.

The corporate use of synthetic turf is something that is growing in popularity as people learn how far synthetic turf has come since ‘Astroturf’ days. It really does look realistic and there are so many colours, heights, and other specifications to make it exactly what you are looking for. Most recently we find businesses using artificial turf for commercials and in film and tv shows. Adding some turf to the set allows for the show to display a real neighbourhood home, at any time of year with a beautiful lawn.

Many municipalities are also including synthetic lawn in their plan for community markets and festivals due to its easy maintenance and cleaning abilities. Having a pet friendly space where people can go hang out is a great addition to any event.

EZ Tees Benefits in Vancouver

There are several benefits of installing Synthetic Turf’s® artificial grass products on residential and commercial properties. As artificial grass technology improves and expands, the look, feel and experience continues to improve.

Gorgeous Green Synthetic Grass

One of the greatest benefits of installing Synthetic Turf® products is how easy it is to maintain gorgeous green grass. The maintenance packages we offer are completely optional and purely for aesthetics.

While residential properties typically require minimal to zero regular maintenance, commercial uses, such as golf courses, require a bit more care for optimal use.

With the spring season on the horizon, it’s time to consider the state of your golf course turf. For the best golfing experience, replace it after winter.

The Benefits of Synthetic Turf® EZ Tee Product Line on Your Golf Course

Throughout the golfing season, golf courses experience a lot of use, which wears Tee Lines and Hitting Mats down. Similarly, snow, ice and the winter conditions cause golf course turfs to lose its feel and look.

Synthetic Turf® offers two tee line and hitting mat surfaces to give your golfers and golf course the ultimate look and feel. The EZ Tee Poly® is made from polypropylene. This allows for a stiffer fiber which is ideal for heavy traffic Tee Lines.

EZ Tee Hybrid® our other top end Tee Line and Hitting Mat turf. Polypropylene and nylon blend allows for a fuller fiber with soft feel through impact.

Both EZ Tee Poly® and EZ Tee Hybrid® are used by several elite golf courses through the US and Canada. Neither product replaces real grass, but it gives grass time to heal properly and can be installed on a compacted aggregate base or on concrete. Concrete will extend the life of these turfs.

4 Reasons Why Your Gym Needs Synthetic Turf

Are you a gym owner or a trainer that is considering opening your own location? There are many factors you will have to consider when opening a gym, one of those factors being the materials that you will use inside your facility.

Let’s face it- there are thousands of gyms across the country with a new location opening in your hometown almost every month. Between crossfit, martial arts and weight lifting gyms, competition is fierce. If you are serious about standing out to your customers and offering a premium fitness solution, you need your atmosphere to reflect that fact as well. One of the ways you can do that is by installing customized synthetic turf inside your gym.

Synthetic turf is amazing for specialized gym environments because:

  • It is low impact
  • You can use equipment such as sleds
  • Turf is excellent for dropping weights onto
  • And, it reduces injuries

Would these be some excellent selling qualities to tout to potential gym members? These benefits are sure to make your gym one of the first choices in your city.

Low Impact on Joints

As we move into 2018, the workout industry has never been more focused on overall health and longevity. Athletes want to work out longer and harder without having to stop and be hindered by injuries. Many activities, such as the sprinting required for HIIT is extremely hard on the knees and ankles. When you sprint or jump on a hard surface, there is little to no support for your joints. When you complete those same motions on synthetic turf, the athletes body will go through much less stress as the turf absorbs a lot of the shock that would normally be transferred to the body.

Equipment Such as Sleds Slides on Turf

If you are a personal trainer, or an athlete involved in MMA or football, you know how important weighted sleds have become in many athletes routines. Sleds can be loaded with as much or as little weight as you want, then pushed or pulled by the athlete, providing a steady stream of resistance. The only problem with sleds it that they require a smooth surface to slide across. Many gyms do not have a space where a sled can be used but if you install synthetic turf, your gym will be sled friendly and pull in customers from all over your city who are looking to jump on the latest workout craze.

Drop the Weights on the Turf as Much as You Like

Have you attended a crossfit class lately? Many of the exercises that have been re-popularized by the sport involve picking up extremely heavy weights, dropping them on the ground and then picking them up again to repeat the process. How do you think your equipment will fair if it is constantly being dropped on cement or hard flooring? With synthetic turf, you can deadlift and clean and jerk all you want, bouncing the weights off the turf without worry. Dropping weights onto synthetic turf is also less noisy, especially when you have multiple groups of athletes all completing the same exercise.

Fall on the Turf? No Big Deal

As an athlete works out and becomes fatigued, the chances of falling and injuring themselves increases. This can happen in any situation but happens frequently during sprinting and agility drills. When an athlete falls onto synthetic turf, he rolls and dusts himself off- no big deal. When an athlete falls onto hard flooring such as cement of plastic padding, they are left with a serious injury that might even send them to the hospital. Of course insurance takes care of the majority of the liability that comes with owning a gym, but you want your athletes to be safe when working out under your roof. Less injuries, more happy customers!

There you have it! Four solid reasons why you need to invest in some synthetic turf for your athletic inspired business.

Synthetic Turf International Year in Review

Synthetic Turf International of Canada enjoyed a busy year filled with growth and expansion in 2017. We filled the demand for distributors in cities where we previously had none, opened a Western Canada Showroom and Warehouse, and completed numerous impressive synthetic turf projects. We want to give a huge thank you to all of our customers, residential, commercial and resellers, for another great year!

Project Highlights

While we installed many impressive projects this year, a few really stood out for us.

We were incredibly excited to provide synthetic turf soccer field to the city of Yellowknife this summer. The kids were so excited to have a new play space and we love hearing stories from our contacts there about how much use it is getting.

Another favourite was a local daycare in the Okanagan. They transformed both campuses into full synthetic turf playground areas.

Our most unique athletic project of the year was a multi sports field. You can see the birds eye view of it below. For a size reference, those little ‘sticks’ are 15’ long! This install was a huge improvement for the city of Lloydminster.

The most unique residential project of the year would probably be a backyard installation surrounding a trampoline. They built the trampoline into the ground, and surrounded the space in synthetic turf to ensure a soft landing even if bounced too far.

Synthetic Turf Flooring Options for Gyms, CrossFit Facilities and Athletic Facilities

We at Synthetic Turf Canada understand that not all fitness facilities are the same. Each sport and activity have different footing needs, and that’s why we design synthetic turf specifically for each type of sport. Our line of athletic turf carries products with all sorts of varying specifications to ensure we cover the needs of the many sports out there.

CrossFit Synthetic Turf

We find that most CrossFit facilities choose to go with our Pro Ball Turf or Trainers Choice. These turfs are available in varying widths, colours and foam back options which allows the company to work within their specific space and needs. Often, companies will go with the option of having the manufacturer tuft in hash marks and lines along the turf. This allows the fitness facility to simply unroll their turf and it is ready to go with the lines already inserted. Another option is to include your custom logo in the turf as seen in the photo below.

Baseball Synthetic Turf

Our Baseball turf is the same construction of Pro Ball Turf, in the traditional Clay baseball colour. Our baseball infields include the batters mound, home plate, and lines running to first, second and third base. The outfield is traditionally done in Pro Ball Turf in our classic Pine colour.

Soccer Synthetic Turf

Soccer fields have a few options, but the most common option we see is our Bermuda Blend synthetic turf. It is a very durable lawn product that’s not too tall making it easier to play with the ball on the field.

Tennis Synthetic Turf

Synthetic Turf International has created Tennis Pro for use on tennis field installations. It comes in green, blue and white and is generally sold as a half court or full court set up.

Bocce Synthetic Turf

Bocce Pro is a newer product from Synthetic Turf International, recently created to meet the demands for bocce courts in North America. It is again a similar construction to Pro Ball Turf, giving the ball a nice easy path to roll down. It comes in the classic sand bocce colour to resemble a true court.

When it comes to the flooring options for your project, you need to consider what the space is going to be used for. Will it be primarily designed for lifting weights? Will there be sled pushing? Perhaps you will be splitting the space into different rooms to allow for various sport activity. Our team is available to discuss the best options for your specific type of application.

Why Professional Sports Teams Choose Synthetic Turf

Sport has been part of our culture for thousands of years. Playing games in a competitive manner is engrained into our genetic make-up, a natural inclination for everyone from toddlers to elders. With the major sports comes deep traditions.

The Tradition of Sport

The traditions, history and rules of a sport are the foundation of the spirit that excites the athletes and the fans for generations. As children, we grow up watching and following our sport idols on television. Our parents tell us thrilling tales from the last dying seconds of a high school championship and our grandparents share the wisdom of the greats that are no longer with us.

For those who love a sport, tradition is everything and to break that tradition is a delicate subject to say the least.

Two of the most passionate sports in the world are without a doubt, soccer and football; or if you are European, football and American football. When you bend down and wrap your hands around the leather of an NFL football, you can almost hear the ghostly echo of a stadium cheering as a team from the past overcomes the odds and wins a State Championship or the Superbowl. When the World Cup Event is taking place on the other side of the world and the majority of your city has their favourite country’s flag hanging off their car or on their jersey, you know soccer is a big deal.

Artificial Turf and Professional Sports

Image the reaction you might receive if you proposed to change the shape or size of soccer goal posts around the world. You would likely be met with outrage from Brazilian, Italian, and French soccer fans among many other. How could you possibly change one of the fundamental aspects of the sport? It has been this way for hundreds of years- how dare we…right?

Well, if we followed this mindset in all other aspects of our lives we would still be sending smoke signals instead of text messages and goalies in the sport of hockey would be facing 90 mph slapshots without a mask or helmet.

As technology advances, sports evolve to increase the quality of play while also increasing the safety of the athletes.

Turf vs. Natural Grass in Soccer

Soccer has been played on fields, or pitches, made of natural grass for hundreds of years. Is there any issue with professional athletes playing on natural grass fields?

Disadvantages of Playing Professional Sports on Natural Grass

  • Non-uniform divots and depressions disrupt the play and can cause injury
  • Provide less playing time when the grass is damaged due to frost, heavy rain etc
  • Wear down and become bare in some areas when playing 150+ games in a year
  • Stadium/pitch owners have the disadvantage of paying for groundskeeper and other supplies such as fertilizer

This is where synthetic turf makes it’s entrance. When installed correctly, it creates a completely uniform surface, creating footing and ball play that is more predictable for athletes. Without natural divots, holes, or rocks, an artificial field negates many injuries. Some athletes, namely senior soccer players, believe that artificial turf causes more injuries than natural grass. While there is potential for this to be true of the older styles of synthetic turf, there is no evidence to suggest that modern turf causes any more injuries than grass.

Synthetic Turf is Adopted by Professional Sports with Open Arms

In many of the European soccer leagues,  synthetic turf is being widely adopted, even in some of the most traditional areas, such as Scotland. Before artificial turf, all the fields in Scotland were absolutely horrible due to the amount of precipitation they receive. Not only did the grass become wet and puddled but it also was damaged easier on dry days because the soil was so moist. This caused game delays, injuries, cancellations and inhibited the growth of many Scottish players who spent less time playing. Artificial turf was once banned in Scotland, now two of their premier teams play on 100% artificial turf. In Norway, over 60% of the soccer pitches are now composed of artificial turf. Not only are the players and coaches convinced, but so are the managers.

Norwegian manager of Celtic- Ronny Deila

“If you want to to develop players and get passing football into your team, it’s difficult when the ball is bouncing all the time. It’s much better to play on an artificial surface than to play on this. If we are going to develop good young players in Scotland you need to have a good surface to play and train on. If not, you just get fighters. If you want skills and technique, you have to play on better surfaces. They are much better in Norway where 60% of our pitches are artificial. Nothing is better than a good grass pitch, but if it’s going to be like this then it’s better to play on artificial.”

Scottish FA Chief -Stewart Regan

“There is no evidence from recent research to suggest any link between artificial surface and injury #heretostay”

A stadium full of fans watching a soccer match being played on synthetic turf

Synthetic Turf is Here to Stay

Back in North America, you will find almost half of the NFL stadiums sporting artificial turf and over 90% of US Soccer youth development games played on synthetic surfaces. In Canada, the BC Whitecaps now play in a new $150 million dollar stadium that sports artificial turf, while the Women’s World Cup games in Edmonton were played on artificial blades of grass of the Commonwealth Stadium instead of dirt. It is clear that professional athletes and team owners have recognized that the highest quality of play and development occurs on an artificial surface. If you want the best players and the best games for your fans to enjoy, the choice is clear. Synthetic Turf is here to stay.

Synthetic Turf Treatment and Care

95% of synthetic turf customers have agreed that one of their main motivators to purchase artificial turf was for the low maintenance space. Many of our residential customers purchase homes with a small patch of natural grass in the front yard, which is a growing trend among new builds. Home owners find this to be more of a nuisance to water, fertilize, mow and maintain. Imagine dragging a lawn mower up the side to the front of the house for a 10×10’ patch of grass every few days, the thought is enough to annoy us!

The benefit of having synthetic turf is that there is zero maintenance required. Any maintenance packages we offer are completely optional and purely for aesthetics (mainly after winter when everything could use a little love). Some clients live in very high wind areas, or have more than the average amount of trees nearby, in which case we recommend using a leaf blower to remove fallen debris from the artificial turf.

Spring Refresh by Synthetic Turf

Synthetic Turf Canada has a strong Spring Refresh Program available to all customers. An added benefit of working with us is that we can manage all maintenance and turf care for you. Some of our customers like to take part in the Spring Refresh program once a year to give their yard a bit of a spruce up before the busy summer season. A Spring Refresh includes power wash, removal of debris, and brushing of the synthetic turf to leave it looking brand new. They typically take 1-2 hours for most projects and can be scheduled at any time. We do have a Spring Refresh list started for 2018 clients, so if you know you will want to take part when the snow clears, let us know and we can get your home added to the schedule.

Cleaning Synthetic Turf for Pets

Synthetic turf installed with the primary focus being a dog run may need a bit more attention than the average backyard or putting green space. For these projects, we recommend installing with a product called Zeolite which acts as a deodorizer and actively removes any poor scents. Whether a project was installed with Zeolite or not, there is another product we recommend for clients having problems with pet odours, Pro Vet Logic. This is a spray that is applied to a completed installation at any time there is deemed to be a pet problem. It is completely safe for use around pets and children, so families don’t need to worry about the safety factor.
